Porsche, Nissan, Lamborghini, and many other auto manufacturers are approaching into Web3 industry, indicating that automobiles are treated as fashion-like may be just around the corner.

Currently, there is no doubt that auto manufacturers are showing interest in Web3. For example, Nissan sold an NFT in 2021, linking an actual car to the NFT, which ultimately fetched a price of $2.3M.
In addition to Nissan, Hyundai has entered the cryptoverse by selling NFTs in collaboration with Meta Kongz. Likewise, Lamborghini has sold NFTs tied to real art.
This time, the German auto manufacturer Porsche announces to release of its first NFT collection.

On November 30th, Porsche announced its first NFT collection, limited to 7,500. The NFT is designed by Patrick Vogel, a German 3D artist.
When purchasing an NFT, the buyer selects one of the three core; Performance, Heritage, or Lifestyle. Each design is different, and once the core is selected, the designer will spend several months creating a work of art according to buyers' wishes.
The mint will begin in January 2023, but the exact date and pricing have yet to be determined.
The NFT will be the Porsche 911 series, which has been Porsche's flagship for many years. So then, why did Porsche choose this 911 series for NFT?
What is the Porsche 911?

The Porsche 911 has been Porsche's flagship car since it was first created in 1963. The official website describes the Porsche 911 as follows:
A timeless icon. A car born out of a relentless pursuit of a dream. A car that broke boundaries and defied convention.
Since the series has more than 50 years of history, Porsche must have a solid emotional attachment to it. Despite its unique form, it has been noted for its excellent acceleration and maneuverability, making it a car to aspire to. The series produced up to 1997 is said to have a current used price sometimes as much as seven times higher than the current price.
VW Group's unstoppable entry into Web3
Although described in many media as "Porsche's first NFT collection," this is not the first time for the Volkswagen Group, of which Porsche is a member.
In the group as a whole, Audi and Lamborghini have already announced their NFT collections.

Audi, which produces and sells luxury cars, is part of the Volkswagen Group.
In August 2021, Audi unveiled its first NFT collection in partnership with xNFT Protocol, a distributed network platform. The NFT was created by Chinese artists inspired by the new Audi, A8L 60 TFSIe.
Also, in May 2022, NFT art was sold to support Ukraine in times of war. It is estimated that $860,000 in profit was generated at this time. For every secondary distribution that occurs in the future, 10% of the profits will be sent to UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe, a Ukrainian aid organization.

Lamborghini, a member of the Volkswagen Group, has presented the NFT collection twice so far.
The first collection, Lamborghini NFT Space Time Memory, is an NFT with an actual piece of art called the Space Key.The NFT was sold through a unique system in which the QR code imprinted on the actual artwork could be read with a smartphone to display the NFT.
The second project is the Epic Road Trip project, launched in August 2022.The content of this project is that four new NFTs will be released every month from August 2022 to March 2023.Those who collected all the NFTs could create a Gold Puzzle and receive a Lamborghini GLB File, allowing them to incorporate Lamborghini into their Metaverse.
Bentley

Bentley, the British luxury car manufacturer, also released the NFT in September 2022.
The NFT was produced by Bentley Design and was limited to 208. According to the press release, the reason for making 208 NFTs is because 208 is a particular number for Bentley.
The top speed of Bentley's fastest car, the Continental GT Speed, is 208 km/h. In addition, the total production of Bentley's early car, the R-Type Continental, was also 208.
Auto Manufacturer Giants are Also Interested in Web3
Besides the Volkswagen Group, other manufacturers are also entering the Web3 world.
In Japan, Nissan Motor Co. has made a splash with its method of linking NFT to actual cars for sale.

In 2021, the digital art of Nissan's iconic GT-R sports car was auctioned as NFT. The final price was 2.3m US dollars, starting at 280,000 Canadian dollars. This NFT came with an actual GT-R as a special bonus, resulting from a hotly contested battle between fans and investors.
A portion of the proceeds was donated to charity. The company also announced that in October 2022, about 15 different Nissan cars will be released as NFTs in the motorsports game Torque Drift 2.
Hyundai

In April 2022, Korea's Hyundai sold an NFT in collaboration with the NFT project "Meta Kongz". The collaboration was apparently decided because "Meta Kongz" is deployed on Klayton, the blockchain of Ground X, a subsidiary of the Korean company Kakao.
Limited to 30, each NFT was priced at 1 ETH but sold out immediately after its release. Secondary distribution is currently taking place on OpenSea, but none of the NFTs are listed.
Other NFTs such as "MobED" and "Shooting Star" has been released based on the concept of a "Metamobility universe" where the boundary between reality and virtual reality disappears.
Toward the Era of Decorating Automobiles as Fashion
As you can see, significant automakers are entering Web3 one after another. When Bentley released NFT, it described the collection as sustainable. Suppose the cars are just stored in a garage as a collection. In that case, the NFT is more "sustainable" because it can be produced without polluting the environment.
Shortly, automobiles may be treated as fashion in more and more situations.
