Top 13 Metaverses of 2023 to enjoy your NFTs

Top 13 Metaverses of 2023 to enjoy your NFTs

Hi there! I'm Sumi, the Voxel Artist.

These days, the term “metaverse” has become far more prevalent in the world. The idea of the metaverse rests on a three-dimensional virtual space that exists online, as seen in the popular games "Animal Crossing", "Fortnite", and "Minecraft", as well as the Japanese animated movies "Summer Wars" and "The Dragon and the Freckled Princess".

In recent years, the development of new technologies such as the blockchain have made it possible to do business in the metaverse, bringing about new revolutionary changes.

I remember playing "Animal Crossing" when I was younger and sparing no effort to earn in-game currency and renovate my house in order to make it bigger. So it’s surprising to hear I can now carry out actual business activities in the metaverse. It’s also not impossible to imagine that children like my younger self, who put a lot of effort into their favorite games, will be able to earn more than adults through activities that take place within metaverse games. There are certainly endless possibilities to explore, which makes for an interesting future ahead.

To give you a glimpse of the future, in this article, I will introduce the top 13 metaverses of 2023 to collect, enjoy, and utilize your NFTs.

I think it’s always useful information to keep track of future business opportunities and the trends of the times. I hope this information will help those who are interested in the metaverse and those who maybe want to develop a new metaverse game or world sometime in the future.

1. Decentraland

Decentraland can be enjoyed by exploring, using public facilities such as art museums and casinos, and participating in events such as digital fashion shows that take place in the metaverse. It is also possible to develop your own business by buying and selling land and holding events.

Inside the 2035 near-future city “Oasis KYOTO”, operated by the Japanese cryptocurrency trading service “Coincheck”, there are various facilities where you can enjoy fashion, music, and art. Celebrities such as fashion models and actresses from Japan are planning to hold events there too.

2. The Sandbox

The Sandbox is a game-first experience that can be played as a voxel world similar to Minecraft. It is also possible to do business in The Sandbox using the virtual currency SAND, such as creating assets that can be used in the game, creating original games, and buying and selling land, etc.

The rapper, Snoop Dogg, and GUCCI are notable landowners in The Sandbox.

A metaverse game that is popular among Gen Z women. Here, you can create an avatar that looks like you from a photo taken by your smartphone and enjoy more than four million customizations, including costumes, accessories, and nails. It is also possible to interact with other users and take unique photos with multiple avatars.

By completing conditions, playing games, and watching advertisements, you can earn Coins and Zems necessary for purchasing items in the game.

4. Axie Infinity

As one of the most well-known worlds in the play-to-earn space, Axie Infinity offers a space to raise pets called Axies. It is possible to earn virtual currency by buying and selling Axies that have been raised and bred, and by playing against other users.

In the Philippines and Indonesia, there have been cases where people were able to make a full-time living from this game.

5. Bit Country

A metaverse game where you create your own world in the metaverse with the aim of growing a small country. 7. Star Atlas

As a metaverse in a near-future universe, players in this game belong to either a human, alien, or android species, and aim to expand their power through battles and planet exploration. You can also earn virtual currency from loot or items discovered through exploration. The beautiful images of space rendered by Unreal Engine 5 are nice to look at too.

This is a metaverse in space under the theme of Mars and colonization. You can create your avatar and enjoy living and exploring Mars. Japan's first metaverse game featuring well-known greats such as Nobunaga Oda, Mozart, and Napoleon. It is possible to form a team of 3 people from about 200 greats to choose from and then earn virtual currency while fighting against other players. You can arrange your greats and exhibit them as NFTs and also receive tips from others.

12. Alien Worlds (エイリアンワールド)

A metaverse game in which you land on a planet, excavate resources, and acquire virtual currency. It is also possible to purchase land, and there is a mechanism of "unearned income" that allows landowners to collect part of the virtual currency obtained by external miners as a usage fee.

The metaverse from Meta Platforms, Inc. (previous name: Facebook, Inc.) where you can create your own world, explore the metaverse, and enjoy interacting with other users.
